How do you change the minds of people who have been doing something for years? The Pharisees did as moses commanded them to do. Then Jesus came and wanted to change things up. The Pharisees did not want any part of what Jesus was here to do.
In Matthew 23:2 it says, “The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses. They were all about the law of moses and wanted nothing to do with this new teaching Jesus was preaching and teaching. They wanted to kill Jesus. It says in Matthew 12:24, Then the Pharisees called a meeting to plot how to kill Jesus.
Wow just because they didn't want change, they wanted to kill him. What if we were like the Pharisees, doing what was done for years and not wanting to change because it was what they knew. Change is not easy for some, and I guess this change was too much for the religious leaders of Jesus time.
Where am I headed with all this? Jesus still wants to change us today and if we are like the Pharisees, we can miss the life changing things Jesus has for us. we choose to do what has always been done we will not want to except change and as I said we will miss the life changing things Jesus has for us. Just because you have been doing something for a long time doesn't mean you cannot change. Jesus brought change, that change was hope and salvation.
So, if you're struggling to change whether it be addiction, the way you do church, a habit or something else. As I always say take it to pray. Pray for God to help you with this struggle. it will not be an easy road but nothing in life is.
Dear God,
I've been doing this thing _____ for so long
I no longer want to do this anymore
I want to see change in my life
I want to see the change that Jesus brought unlike the Pharisees
i want to take this change to heart and have it manifest in my life
So, prepare me for this change and open my mind to this change
