But if we come to a place of compliancy, how are we to glorify the name of Jesus? If Jesus is trying to tell us something, how will we know if we just read to read and say we read it. In John 1:1 it talks about In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. So, if God is the living word, should we want to read the bible as such.
It talks also in the Bible that his mercies are made new everyday. The Lord’s acts of mercy indeed do not end, For His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 shouldn't we look at the word of God that same way each and every day. each time you read the bible come with fresh eyes and read God word as this is the first time you have read it. I will be honest with you for a moment and say I just got through all the gospels and have read them before and I tried to look at them with new eyes but it was hard and somedays I felt bible compliance when reading.
I read the bible everyday and this morning I said I am going to do my routine. I was like that's not what I meant but I said it. In unto itself it is a routine but I came to realize it what I do in the morning not as a routine of just going through motion but to do it routinely as I do it everyday. There is a big difference in both. some days I fell that way and I try to just ignore it but it's there. we need to treat each day as this is the day that the Lord has made and treated as such
So with that, what can you do when you are in this kind of bible compliancy? Change it up when you read. I read both New and Old Testament and that keeps it fresh and new when I read. Not to say that if I didn't do this that I wouldn't come with fresh eyes ever time I read the bible. I'm just say that I do this so I come less compliancy. Another great tool is read out of more than one bible. There are many translations of the bible and you read one that works best for you. Its like trying on clothes to see which one looks the best for you. Translations can be seen the same way. I tend to lean towards the word kind of bibles verse the thought bibles.
My final tool is as I close this morning is to pray each time before you read the bible and ask God to make it new for you each time you read the bible.
The Prayer:
God I thank you and praise You
make what I read new each time I read your word
help me not to come bible complacent
Help me to keep my mind and thoughts open to what I am reading
In Jesus Name
Amen
It's that simple!!!
