The Bible: Wolves in Sheep's Clothing...

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep. 2 Peter 2:1-3 ESV.

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. Revelation 22:18-19 ESV.

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.  Matthew 7:15 ESV.

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 ESV.

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 2 Timothy 4:3 ESV

These verses were the backdrop for what the world thinks about this subject on wolves in sheep's clothing. At the end of the post, we looked specifically at what the world thinks about this subject.

Now let's dig deeper into what the Bible says about this subject. We looked at Matthew 7:15 and if you read the next verses, it goes deeper saying, 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. Matthew 7:15-20.

To start off we will know them by their fruits meaning we will know them by what they produce and by what they do. So, we need to look at their fruits to recognize what they look like and the difference between sheep in sheep's clothing and wolves in sheep's clothing. The Bible is just riddled with the word beware and warning of things like this. That we need to know the difference so we can be on guard. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 ESV. In the NASB it says to be on the alert. We cannot look further at what the Bible says and wants us to do if we do not recognize the wolves in sheep's clothing first.

Tomorrow we will continue this subject.
