Today's biblical hero is Deborah which means bee who was a prophetess and judge in Israel. This appointment was from God meaning God chose her to be in those positions, during this time in history God was appointing men in those positions. Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. Judges 4:4 NASB. Judges are like those of today except that back then they sought guidance from the Lord with prayer and meditation to assist in the ruling they were to make. Many people thought of them as kind prophets who brought a word from God. 24 So Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything that he had said. 25 Moses chose able men out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. 26 Then they judged the people at all times; they would bring the difficult matter to Moses, but they would judge every minor matter themselves. Exodus 18:25-26 NASB
She was also a warrior and was given instruction by God to tell Barak an Israelite warrior to go to battle with 10,000 troops to mount tabor to attack Sisera. He said He would only go if She went with Him. She said, “I will certainly go with you; however, the fame shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to take, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh. Judges 4:9 NASB.
In chapter 5 of Judges, She comes up again and is talked about in a poem about her quest for the Lord. She is a biblical hero for all that she did. Women can do great things for God as well as men.
Read her story, see, and praise God for women in the Bible and all that they accomplished!!!
Have a biblical hero kind of day!!!
