Seek Ye First: Matthew 6:33

Today we will put verse 33 of Matthew 6 in context to the author, where it is in the bible, and what is going on at the time this verse is said in the bible.

The author who wrote this verse is Matthew, but it is Jesus who said it. Matthew was a tax collector and one of the original 12 disciples that Jesus chose to follow Him. it never says that he wrote but there are many clues that he wrote this book because one example is he was there on the day of Pentecost and another example is he was there for Jesus's entire ministry. This book that Matthew wrote was targeted at a Jewish audience.

Where is this in the bible, for this book, it appears during the Sermon on the Mount, The Beatitudes. the verse specifically falls under the heading the cure for anxiety.   And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him: and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying, Matthew 5:1. after that verse there is no more black writing to say that He left that mountain before the verse we are looking is said.  The mountain was in Galilee most likely because of the last heading of the last chapter saying Ministry in Galilee. it may not have been in the city but close by.

As to what is happening, Jesus is ministering to a great multitude of people. and the thing that He is talking about when it gets to the verse, we are looking at is the cure for anxiety. so just like the verse, we examined yesterday we are not to be anxious about what we are to eat or to drink or clothed for we are first to seek the kingdom of God and it will be added. Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? Matthew 6:31. So, we are not to be anxious for these things but as it is written to seek first ye the kingdom and it will be added to you. But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33.

So that is a look into the verse, Matthew 6:33. Tomorrow we will look at the differences between the two verses and such. Have a blessed day!!!
