Christmas Outreach: Joy

And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Matthew 2:10. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full. John 15:11. Today we are talking about Joy, the Joy that can only come from Jesus and His Kingdom. Sometime in your life, you heard this saying don't be a ba hum bug or don't be a scrooge. Well, how do people know that we are Christians if we are those things? If we are to take to heart what it says in John 15:11 the things that were spoken to them were to give them the joy of Jesus may be in you and joy of Jesus be made full.

Where in the bible does it talk about hate being what we are to have? Nowhere are we to have hate in our hearts and in our minds but so often we do towards someone who just cut you off on the road or to a politician who does something you do not like or anything else you can think of. Do you think when someone tried to kill Jesus or give him a hard time Jesu hated that person or persons? No, let's take a look at Luke 23:34 and it says, And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And parting his garments among them, they cast lots. Jesus in the midst of all that was happening to Him, He forgave them. but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy. 1Peter 4:13. Where am I heading with this, I thought this was about joy. and you would be right this is about joy.

But what if joy this Christmas drowns out hate or anything else that goes with it. What if the joy that comes from Jesus poured out of us so much so that it was like a disease that spread like a wildfire. We are to have joy all the time even in the midst of things that are not joyful. To sum up, all that I mentioned above is to show you that Jesus wants us to be joyful even when we are not joyful. We are to be joyful in Christ's suffering. that instead of hate that we drown it out with Joy, exceeding joy that only comes from Jesus.

The song that most people know, and it is a song that is sung at Christmas time, Joy To the world.

Joy to the world! The Lord has come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing
Joy to the world! the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make
His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as, far as the curse is found

Written by Isaac Watts

We are to have Joy and it is to the world because the Lord has come. We are to have Joy to the world because the savior reigns. We are to repeat the sounding joy that we have over and over again/ we are to be the joy to the world this Christmas.

Tomorrow we will talk about ways to outreach in/with joy. Have a blessed day!!!
