Songs of Change...

How many songs can you name that changed lives on a global scale? I can think of some, one example is We are the World. They first used that song for the USA for Africa and then for Haiti. Another example is I Am Woman by Helen Redding. a further example is Imagine by John Lennon. Other examples are artists Elvis, the Beatles, and other artists. What if we took all that kind of global-scale music and applied it to Christianity?  As I sit here, I tell you from my own heart that I get more life-changing feelings from non-Christian songs than from Christian Songs. When I hear Born in the USA, it gets me pumped and sometimes a tingling feeling but when I listen to Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin, it makes me want to turn off the radio. Is it that songs don't have the same depth as they did back in the day? I may be counted as few on this, but I listen to Hymns because I think they have more depth and challenge me to worship and sing more than some of the songs of today.

I will praise the name of God with song, And exalt Him with thanksgiving. Psalms 69:30. I know that we are supposed to praise God with song. Psalms 91 Gives us a call to worship. But are we just giving lite hearted songs merit so as not to challenge or offend anyone? Or are we that simple-minded that we need these songs to worship and sing? it talks about a new song in Psalms 91 and other verses talk about this as well but what does that mean? Is it literal, I do not think so but cannot tell you for certain but I believe in the spirit, it is talking about keeping your worship fresh and not getting in a place of compliance with worship. We often get to a place where our worship becomes cold or stagnant.

What if we shook things up? As I said yesterday, create a dance for Christianity but also take a look at what we are listening to and see if the song has depth and is worthy of a song of Christ. Putting a bunch of lyrics of any song together and calling it a worthy song of Christ is not right and should not be done. It is like doing it halfway. We need to put the effort into what we are singing and worshipping. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Revelations 3:16. In our faith, we are not to be lukewarm but shouldn't that apply to all things in our faith including our worship and the way we sing.

What if we created music that changed lives on a global scale not just for Christians but for all people? What if we came from lukewarm worship to hot worship. When Elvis came on the scene he was considered devil music. but I tell you what the devil can use for him can be used moreover for God and his kingdom more. Today Elvis's music is considered ok and not of the devil. But if you read Elvis was not known for his rock N roll music but for his gospel music. Even Elvis was an instrument back then in people's walk.

I will leave it there for today and finish this up tomorrow. I leave you with this thought what the devil can use for evil, God can use it for Good Like Elvis.

All Bible verse taken from the NASB

Disclaimer* I do not dislike Chris Tomlin it is just an example of a song of today. I listen and worship to some of his stuff.
