Today we will be talking about the uncommon book of Lamentations. The author some say is Jeremiah but that is not for sure, some same it is a mystery who wrote the book Lamentations. You know most of the books of the Bible and who wrote them, and there is a majority of people who agree with who wrote the books of those books. But for this book author we are unsure, and I will not say one way or another as I do not speculate about the Bible, only facts when it comes to stuff like this in the Bible.
The dictionary from Dictionary.com sat lament is to feel or express sorrow or regret for or to mourn for or over. So, we know from this book's title that it will be about sorrow and grieving. She weeps bitterly in the night, And her tears are on her cheeks; She has no one to comfort her Among all her lovers. Lamentation 1:2 NASB. They are talking about Zion so when they say her, they are referring to Zion.
This book of the Bible is written with songs and poems just like Psalm and we love Psalm but not this book. From what I researched this book is talking about the aftermath of what has happened to Jerusalem. The destruction by the Babylonians to great nations. How lonely sits the city That once had many people! She has become like a widow Who was once great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces Has become a forced laborer! Lamentations 1:1 NASB.
God's wrath is also a major theme of this book. In fierce anger He has cut off All the strength of Israel; He has pulled back His right hand From the enemy. And He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire Consuming on all sides. Lamentations 2:3 NASB. The Lord has expended His wrath, He has poured out His fierce anger; And He has kindled a fire in Zion, And it has consumed its foundations. Lamentations 4:11 NASB.
So even though this book is about sorrow, grief, and God's anger it is still in the Bible, and we need to revere it, read it, and use it like any other book of the Bible.
Have a day of using the book of Lamentations!
