So, with a guest list set for the table and the tools to go forth to do so, let's reflect on the words of Jesus as we wrap this series. 15 Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near Jesus to listen to Him. 2 And both the Pharisees and the scribes began to complain, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15:1-2. Yes, it is true Jesus ate, and with sinners and such, He walked across the aisle and ate with them. but what was the reason? To help the sick as it says in Mark 17, 17 And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
but I like what he goes on to say in Luke 15, 3 And so He told them this parable, saying, 4 “What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the other ninety-nine in the [c]open pasture and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he puts it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost!’ 7 I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance. 99 righteous people could come to Christ but the one who is a sinner brings more joy to God when he repents.
God cares more about the sinners than the righteous. He walked across the aisle to bring people who were of this nature to Himself and bring them to His Kingdom. A well person has no need for a physician, but a sick person does. the righteous were the well people and the sinners were the sick people.
So, if you remember the song from childhood, follow the leader. We need to follow our leader, Jesus, and do what He did and tried to accomplish. He walked across the aisle and ate with sinners and tax collectors and harlots and showed no shame in doing so. He knew who would listen to Him and keep His word, just like the parable of the seeds on the soil.
So go forth and make your table by walking across the aisle and just shaking someone's hand and inviting them to coffee or such.
