This grace that Paul is talking about is from Jesus. This grace cannot be earned bought, worked for, exchanged, given by man, forced, or stolen, it is freely given by Jesus Christ. Let that sink in for a few minutes before you move on in reading this message. This grace is freely given and is for everyone who chooses to follow Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, Ephesians 2:8. This grace is not something man-made or is from Man but God alone. We as man have the power to grant grace to others but not the Grace that only comes from Jesus. The grace that we give is earthly and the grace that Paul is talking about is heavenly because it is from Jesus.
the dictionary definition of grace is a manifestation of favor, especially by a superior: taken from Dictionary.com. In our case the superior they mention in the definition is Jesus. I want to cover all the bases, so you get what this grace is that Paul is talking about. We often think that the dictionary says one thing, and it applies to the word I am using. For me, it usually does you just have to read all the definitions. So, getting back to grace. My bible dictionary backs this up by saying favor and superior.
So, what is a favor, or is this grace a gift from Jesus? it is not talking about a favor that you do it is talking about finding favor in Jesus and he will give you grace and that is a gift from Him. people get so caught up in what they are reading sometimes they do not stop and read and understand what it is saying. God finds favor in us, so he freely gives us this grace that Paul talks about. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Luke 1:30. who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was granted to us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 2 Timothy 1:9. Both of these verses back that up, the first being about finding favor and the second about God granted us grace.
Some questions to think about for tomorrow as I continue where I left off:
Did the people of Paul's time accept this grace?
Which is greater our sin or the Grace Paul is talking about?
Does this grace come at a cost?
Did Paul deserve this grace?
Do we deserve this grace?
All Bible verses taken from the NKJV, NASB
