Difference Between Humor/Laughter and Foolishness....

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, And your lips with joyful shouting. Job 8:21. Today we will be talking about a distinction that is so important in thinking about humor and laughter and that is the difference between humor/laughter and foolishness.

We will start by looking at foolishness today. The foolishness of a person ruins his way, And his heart rages against the Lord. Proverbs 19:3. Therefore the Lord does not rejoice over their young men, Nor does He have compassion on their orphans or their widows; For every one of them is godless and an evildoer, And every mouth is speaking foolishness. In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away, And His hand is still stretched out. Isaiah 9:17. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17. Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words. Proverbs 13:20. God does not like the foolish and in the last verse, talks about despising fools.

The KJV dictionary it says. In scripture, fool is often used for a wicked or depraved person; one who acts contrary to sound wisdom in his moral deportment; one who follows his own inclinations, who prefers trifling and temporary pleasures to the service of God and eternal happiness. so the person who is foolish is wicked and one who denies the sound judgement of God. In Revelation, it says because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth. I believe he would do the same to the foolish because they do not want anything to do with him and say there is no God. he does despise them but not sure if hates them or would go as far as to spew them out like Revelations. but I do know that He does not like foolishness.

People who are foolish usually do stupid things. let's look at the bible and a piece of the story of Esau. 29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” 32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” 33 Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:29-34. Esau was a foolish man. He did a lot of harm to what he had done to his family and especially his father. He lost all that he was to be given. All this just for stew, what foolishness. I will let that sink in and stop there for today.

This is a glimpse into what foolishness is in the bible and what it means to be foolish. Tomorrow we will look at humor/laughter and the difference between the two.
