With all that how do we apply them to our lives today? Before I answer the question and get into that I want to say that it doesn't mean that you have to worship and do it as they did long ago or in the past, you can do it how you feel. There are several ways we can apply hymns to our lives. All the ways I will talk about are simple and easy to do because if it isn't easy Christians do not want to do it anymore.
The first is to go research and buy a hymnal that is Christian. It does not matter the religion the hymnal is as long it is Christian. Find a hymnal that you connect with and songs that you like. if You don't connect with it or find songs you like, you will not use it, and that defeats the purpose of why you bought it. I have a collection of hymnals and I look at them and read them sometimes. They hold richness far beyond most songs today. I read them to get encouraged and to seek the wisdom they have.
Some things to consider when researching a hymnal to buy. Look and make sure it is Christian, that seems like a duh moment but there are so many things that look of the faith but are of the world. Find one you can read not just so it can look pretty on a shelf or if it is too old to look at a lot that probably isn't a good one to have. unless you're like me and collect them and have some that are able to look at a lot and others once in a while but are old. there are so many out there that it does not have to be a big heavy hymnal or a collection of hymnals like encyclopedias.
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’? Matthew 21:42. Just like the verse says have you never read the scripture? you can apply the same thing to Hymns have you never read the hymns? Even though the hymns are not as old as the bible they in my spirit to tell you that they hold the same things the bible does the richness, the wisdom, encouragement, knowledge and helpfulness that we can seek and glorify Jesus with and advance His Kingdom.
