What do you think of when you think of hymns? A catholic service, a solemn choir, an organ, and a singer or pastor, and an organ. Whatever you think when you think of hymns throw it out the doors and come with fresh eyes when looking at hymns. Now about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; Acts 16:25.
You may not even know what a hymn is. They are rarely sung in churches anymore at least the ones I've heard of. You may sing Amazing Grace, which is a hymn that you didn't even know was one. Hymns are not talked about much in the bible but the few verses that talk about hymns are found in the New Testament, but I think they are so important to recognize and worship to them. In my spirit and all that I have that is from God, I believe that hymns are just as important almost as the Bible itself. Just like the Bible has been around for a long time and hymns haven't been around as long, they have stood the test of time just like the Bible.
I want you to think of the song or songs that brought you to Jesus and His Kingdom. was it a hymn that brought you to Jesus? what Hymns do you remember that has been a big impact on your life? Has a hymn made an impact on your life maybe not? if you think Hymns are just something that people back in the day sang and they are not for you. This brings me to the focus of my new series called Make Hymns New, Bringing Back what was Lost.
A road map for this series. Tomorrow we will look at what a hymn is and get a better understanding of a hymn. Whether it is tomorrow or the next day we learn the history of hymns (a condensed version). Then we will move on and take a look at a few hymns and learn the history and see if they have Biblical significance. Then we will look to see if your view has changed. after that, we will look at how hymns can be made new and change our lives. to finish up we will look at how they can be applied to your life today.
Looking forward to this series and this journey by looking into hymns and what they mean and can mean to you in this day and age in glorifying Jesus.
Each day I will post at the end of each message a playlist of Hymns for you to listen to and become a favorite of yours like me.
