But the fruit of the Spirit is temperance.
To me when I look at this word it sounds like it deals with one's temper or something to do your emotions of that nature.
But let's dig in and see what temperance is all about.
From what I have read this has nothing to do with anger but with virginity and drink and the other thing that was mentioned was self-control.
further reading it talks about drinking and the use of meat and using animals for enjoyment.
I like how Reporter-Times simplifies this fruit to say the Bible says, temperance is emotional restraint or self-control.
The word anger came up as well in this article.
So maybe it is not directly about just anger but emotions in general.
The idea of temperance is to have self-control and or restraint of oneself and emotions.
I Like the example Cambridge Bible School for Schools and Colleges gave the example of ancient athletes.
Athletes have to have self-control and restraint to be the best they can be. If they are not they will not succeed in their sport.
25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 1 Corinthians 9:25 KJV
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 2 Peter 1:6 KJV
There are few verses about temperance but we know what it means now and can live it out in our lives.
Love never came up today but we would need or have love to be temperance.
What does the word temperance mean to you?
What do you need temperance in?
Is temperance something that is or deals with love?
