Psalm 37 is written by David and is a psalm that is poetic in nature. It was in Hebrew originally and the Psalm is written to tell the problems that David was having.
Psalm 37 opens with:
1 Don’t Fret because of evildoers, Be not envious towards wrongdoers. Psalm 37:1 NLT
Fret means to be worried or anxious constantly.
Evildoers are the ungodly or people who do not know God or have intent even if they know God.
17 Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. Proverbs 23:17 NLT
31 Don’t envy violent people or copy their ways. Proverbs 3:31 NLT
The main theme in this verse is (Do not) envy.
Verse 2:
2 For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Psalm 37:2 NLT
This shows that the envious will be short-lived. It is a picture that the envious will be cut down like grass when it is mowed.
The flowers are the same way they will be short-lived and will dry up or shriveled. when something withers away it is mostly likely to die.
Verse 3: Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Psalm 3 NLT
Verse 4:
4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:4 NLT
Delight means to have great pleasure, or pleased greatly.
God will give those in Him what is their hearts. He knows our desires and will fulfill them.
26 “Then you will take delight in the Almighty and look up to God. Job 22:26 NLT
19 When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. Psalm 94:19 NLT
14 Then the Lord will be your delight. I will give you great honor and satisfy you with the inheritance I promised to your ancestor Jacob. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Isaiah 58:14 NLT
Verse 5:
Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. Psalm 37:5 NLT
commit means to bind or pledge to something.
We need to give all that we have to the Lord.
God will help those who trust in Him in everything.
22 Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. Psalm 55:22 NLT
3 Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 NLT
7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
