Cell phone Jesus: Negative Impact

Today we will look at the negative impact our cell phones have on us that leads us further from God in the series called Cell Phone Jesus. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. Proverbs 17:14

In this world, there are two ways to look at things, does it Glorify Jesus, bringing us closer to Jesus, bringing us to seek Him and worship Him, or does it Bring us farther away from Jesus, leading us away from Jesus and not to worship and seek Him. This applies to something we use a lot every day and it is called a cell phone. It seems like in the verse above people do not want sound teaching they want to suit their own passion, their own pleasure not seeking Jesus, or plain don't want to hear it. People want what pleasure has to offer versus what Jesus has to offer because it looks more appealing This can apply to our cell phones what are you seeking and looking at and doing when on our cell phones is it for our pleasure/passions or is it to Glorify Jesus.

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:3. We often get on Facebook and seek mindless things that are of the world like the verse above talks about and scroll and scroll looking at what empty deceit, in today's society to fill a hole or empty things. I will tell you that nothing on a phone of that nature can fill any hole you feel only Jesus can fill that hole for you. You may think the hole is filled if you look as you scroll down and down on Facebook, but it will not last and leave you more empty or the hole bigger. We seek things that give us comfort and that is centered around our cell phones since it is so easy to access stuff today.

People think big weapons are the greatest threat to our lives, but I am going to be bold, the greatest weapon is our cell phones because in an instant we have the power to build someone up or tell someone off or we have the power to lead us to Jesus or destroy our lives. Using our cell phones in the wrong way can destroy us and the lives around us. There is so much hate out there and it can all be accessed on our cell phones. To be honest some of that can even come from us and we don't even know it and to be clear here I am not talking about being politically correct. So, what we see and do on our cell phones can be just as a threat to our lives as the greatest of weapons.

Even after you did the evaluation there may still be apps that lead you farther from God, and you don't even know it. Even an app on your cell phone that is for a good purpose can be one that leads you farther from God.

All the things which I have talked about culminate to this, the negative impact cell phones have on our lives. Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 2 Corinthians 10:5. Choose whether your cell phone will be bad company or will be good company because as the verse says bad company ruins good morals. You cannot get away from Cell phone use these days like that person who is bad for you, and you need to cut him/her out of your life, but you can choose the company that you have on your phone. Meaning you can choose how you use the cell phone and the apps you have on your phone.

Tomorrow I will talk about what we watch, read and listen to on our cell phones and the negative impact it has on our lives.
