Study of Peter 1& 2: Chapter 4 Verses 16-19...

16 but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins [b]with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the godless man and the sinner? 19 Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God are to entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.

Verse 16

If we suffer, we are not to be ashamed of this suffering.

In this name, it means to literally to glorify God in His name.

41 So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name. Acts 5:41

Verse 17

Judgment is beginning with God's people.

Household of God means God's people.

This judgment begins with us as Christians.

Then the verse talks about what shall be the end for the people who do not obey God.

29 For behold, I am beginning to inflict disaster on this city which is called by My name, so should you be completely free from punishment? You will not be free from punishment, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth,” declares the Lord of armies.’ Jeremiah 25:29

Verse 18

Some versions use the word hard instead of difficulty.

If it is hard for us to be saved as the righteous.

Then the verse turns to what will become to the people who are godless and sinners.

31 If the righteous will be repaid on the earth,

How much more the wicked and the sinner! Proverbs 11:31

Verse 19

This verse is talking about putting our trust of our soul in God to do what is right.

17 For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong. 1 Peter 3:17
