16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A prayer of a righteous person, when it is brought about, can accomplish much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
19 My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you strays from the truth and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that the one who has turned a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
Verse 16:
Therefore, means to look at the last verse.
Verse 15- and the prayer of faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
So, after what we are to do in verse 15, we are to in verse 16 confess sin to one another and pray for one another.
6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:6
A prayer of a person who is righteous when it is shown or led by can accomplish much.
Some versions use great power, able, powerful availeth instead of brought about.
Verse 17:
An example of what man like us can do when prayer is involved.
15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men, of the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you, to turn from these useless things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything that is in them. Acts 14:15
Verse 18:
Then he prayed again and it rain to produce crops.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and drink. But Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bent down to the earth and put his face between his knees. 1 Kings 18:42

Some of the people would stray from the truth and if some turned back, we need to look at verse 20.
Discipline and Prayer
15 “Now if your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have gained your brother. Matthew 18:15
Verse 20:
We are to inform the person who has sinned the error of his ways so his soul will be saved from death, and it will cover a multitude of sins.
12 Now if their wrongdoing proves to be riches for the world, and their failure, riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!
