14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, free of hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Verse 14:
We are not to have bitter jealousy and selfish ambitions in our hearts.
The place where deeds and words flow from like a fountain that springs water.
We are not to be arrogant and so lie against the truth.
The truth is the gospels of Jesus (it is the Bible).
8 but to those who are self-serving and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, He will give wrath and indignation. Romans 2:8
Verse 15:
This kind of wisdom does not come from heaven but from the earth and evil.
This kind of wisdom does not descend from God/Heaven.
Earthly- opposed by God/heaven.
Natural- animal-like. No repentance- no born again and not having the sprit which God gives us.
Demonic- Hell itself.
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17
Verse 16:
Where there is jealousy and selfish ambition exist, this leads to devilish wisdom meaning evil thoughts and such.
If we have such things this will lead to confusion.
This leads to all kinds of wickedness.
8 but to those who are self-serving and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, He will give wrath and indignation. Romans 2:8
20 For I am afraid that perhaps when I come I may find you to be not what I wish, and may be found by you to be not what you wish; that perhaps there will be strife, jealousy, angry tempers, selfishness, slanders, gossip, arrogance, disturbances; 2 Corinthians 12:20
Verse 17:
This verse talks about the wisdom that is from heaven and then goes on to list the things that this kind of wisdom is.
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17
11 For behold what earnestness this very thing, this [a]godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment of wrong! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter. 2 Corinthians 7:11
Verse 18:
Righteousness- meaning true wisdom.
This leads to eternal life.
Sown- means to exercise or to act.
Some versions use the word seed, or produce from the seeds, planted or grown from the seed.
Those with this kind of wisdom shall reap the reward for having it.
It also could mean that when we exercise this kind of wisdom is done in a way that is peaceable and sweet.
From what I read they give to explanations.
18 A wicked person earns deceptive wages,
But one who sows righteousness gets a true reward. Proverbs 11:18
