9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who have been made in the likeness of God; 10 from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way. 11 Does a spring send out from the same opening both fresh and bitter water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers and sisters, bear olives, or a vine bear figs? Nor can salt water produce fresh.
Wisdom from Above
13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
Verse 9:
With our tongue we bless God and with our tongue, we use it to curse people. we do this even though we have been made in the likeness of God.
27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James 1:27
Verse 10:
it is said again like from verse 9 with the same mouth we use it to bless and curse.
The writer James says it should not be that way.
Verse 11:
It gives an example of spring giving fresh and bitter water in the same opening.
Both cannot exist together just like blessings and cursing cannot exist together.
34 You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, express any good things? For the mouth speaks from that which fills the heart. 35 The good person brings out of his good treasure good things; and the evil person brings out of his evil treasure evil things. Matthew 12:34-35
Verse 12:
Another example or illustration fig tree bear olives or a vine bear figs.
Nor can salt water produce fresh water.
Talking again about the blessing and cursing cannot be together.
16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? Matthew 7:16
Verse 13:
The question is asked who among you is wise and understanding?
To answer the question James says we are to show it by the actions of our good behavior, our deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
18 But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:18
