Today we look at Psalm 70.
Prayer for Help against Persecutors. This is the heading for the psalm as it is written in the
NASB.
This psalm was written to the music director, a psalm of David for a memorial.
Verse 1:
God, hurry to save me;
Lord, hurry to help me!
In the verse, we can infer that time is of the essence based on the word hurry. Hurry is said twice
in different ways but with the same meaning. Help and save are from the same way of thinking.
Helping someone can save them and saving someone can help them.
Be pleased, Lord, to rescue me;
Hurry, Lord, to help me.
14 May those be ashamed and humiliated together
Who seek my life to destroy it;
May those be turned back and dishonored
Who delight in my hurt.
15 May those be appalled because of their shame
Who say to me, “Aha, aha!”
16 May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
May those who love Your salvation continually say,
“The Lord be exalted!”
17 But I am afflicted and needy;
May the Lord be mindful of me.
You are my help and my savior;
Do not delay, my God. Psalm 40:13-17 NASB
In these verses, the word hurry is used again, and then at the end of these it says do not
delay which by this we can infer that there is an urgency of time or as I said earlier time is of
the essence.
In both verse 1 and then the verses of Psalm 40 they wanted God to act fast, to hurry, and
help them to save them.
Do you ever feel that you need to be like this (pray this)?
What do you need God to hurry in your life today?
What do you need God not to delay in your life today?
This morning I had no clue what I was to speak on, but God directed me to this chapter. I had
read it yesterday as I'm reading through the Bible. I feel a sense that this will not be about.
Psalm 70 but a talk about hurrying and do not delay. God gave me direction on where I am
going but God had other plans than just going through Psalm 70 and that is who leads me in
this blog. Maybe it's both I do not know I will let God lead and see what He has for us.
