You have probably all seen the photo or artwork of Jesus sitting at the table for the Passover with His disciples. What a wonderful picture that is. Those were Godly people sitting in that picture and that was a part of the feast. Now imagine what I asked you to do yesterday the meal Jesus had with tax collectors and sinners. What would that picture look like not so like the first picture right? Could you tell someone was a tax collector by just looking at them, I do not know? Could you tell a leper I say so if they were there? The priest shall look at the infected area on the skin of the body, and if the hair in the infection has turned white and the infection appears to be deeper than the skin of his body, it is an infection of leprosy; when the priest has looked at him, he shall pronounce him unclean. Leviticus 13:3. that is how you could tell the bible says that they had leprosy.
Harlots or prostitutes could have been at the table too. Could you tell if they were there? do they were and look like today, I do not know and am not going to go down that rabbit hole. for the sake of this talk/message, I will say probably that they had signs in their appearance that they were. were there murders, thefts, or adulterous people there? I Do not know for it only says sinners, but I can imagine there were people like that there.
This table was filled with these kinds of people because Jesus walked across the aisle to meet them and minister to them. Jesus came down not to bring the righteous to Himself but to the unrighteous to Himself. He crossed the heavenly realm and come into the fleshly realm, He bridged a bridge for us from heaven to earth so that all men could come and have a relationship with and come to Him not just a select few. Jesus could have stayed on His own aisle and be with the chief priest and such but he chose to walk across the aisle to be with the least the last and the lost. He knew that the people of His aisle would not get what had to offer or who He was or His message.
10 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. Which table would you sit the one in the aisle meaning the Christians, the priest, the pharisees, and the scribes, or would you sit at the table Jesus sat at. What table has more value in the kingdom of heaven? Which table would bring glory to God? which one would receive Jesus more? these questions will be answered tomorrow, so study them and be ready for tomorrow.
