Uncommon Books: Joel!

Today in this series we will be talking about Joel. I can honestly say I never read the book of Joel and cannot recall a pastor or sermon who has used the book of Joel. But to start off with Joel has power and is important because it is in the Bible.

Joel was a prophet and one of the minor 12 and his name means Yahweh is God. Joels talk about a great many things in poems. Joel was a minister to the southern kingdom of Judah during the time of Joash the king. In the book of Joel Th main theme is that there was calamity in the area. Joel calls the people to come and repent to God to avoid wrath. Many nations were coming in and creating havoc for Israel. these are the backdrops for the book of Joel.

What the chewing locust left, the swarming locust has eaten;
What the swarming locust left, the crawling locust has eaten;
And what the crawling locust left, the consuming locust has eaten. Joel 1:4 NKJV

We can gather from this verse that they were in turmoil and as I have researched this is going on throughout this book.

So, what can we gather from this book since it talks about only grave things and none of it seems to apply to today's life and world? to start off with it shows the promises of God and His hope.28 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Joel 2L28-29 NKJV.

It shows that God uses physical suffering to get our attention. 16 The Lord also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the Lord will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel Joel 3:16 NKJV.

There are more themes to this book, but I want us to focus on these two, and tomorrow we will continue to look at Joel...

Have a Day looking in the Grave to see God's Promises!
