What and Why Do We Pray...

What is prayer? Simply put prayer is a conversation between you and God.

It’s that easy then why do we not do as often as we should? Is it pride or do we pray only when you need something or in crisis? Could be for several reasons that we do not pray enough. What keeps you from praying is something that you know and no one else knows, well God knows. Maybe you don’t know who to pray to or what prayer is, as I said it’s as simple as a conversation between you and God.

But I can’t pray as good as others. Prayer doesn’t have to be this eloquent prayer or long-winded prayer. It can be as easy I praise and thank you God. Amen. Prayer is easy we made it hard. Oh, I heard a pastor pray so nice and with authority, I could never do that. Your wrong and get that thinking right out of your head right now, for that is the devil trying to stop you from praying or the flesh stopping you. When we pray things begin to happen as I have said. Don’t let the devil have an inch because he will take the inch and then take a mile (In a later message I will talk about the devil and is evil ways not to give him due but to acknowledge that he is real and how to protect yourself).

Why do we prayer? We pray to communicate with our Lord and Savior. He already knows all and knows what you will say but he wants to hear you utter the words and put forth effort to it. It’s act on our part which is praying to start with then God will do his part. I say to start with because sometimes there are other steps, we need to do so God can do his part.  An example of that is two men prayed for jobs, one just prayed and sat there. The other one posted his resume on websites, made calls, and walked into places about jobs. Which one will God give a Job to? Get the hang of what I said. If not, I will put it another way sometimes the only step is praying and sometimes there is two steps and sometimes three or more. I say this but it doesn’t mean that God makes us jump through hoops to pray or receive what we are Praying about. We can pray at any time, and he freely give us what we pray about but it’s in his timing. There are certain things I believe God doesn’t answer in prayer because it may be something you don’t need, or he knows if he gives it to you what will happen. God gives what we need, when we pray and will continue to bless us but, God knows what we need when we need it and what we don’t need.

Prayer is so important that God even Shows us how to pray. We do not need to pray this way every time, but it is a model or example of how we should pray:

Our Father, who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’ Matthew 6: Part of 9-13 NASB

With prayer being so important, we need to do it every day, all day. No matter how we feel or if we think we should or if we can pray eloquently. Plainly put God wants to hear from us not matter how we do it. So just pray today and Let God do his part (unless there are other steps to do before God can do his part).
